Tariffs on components originating from China
Explains how US tariffs on Chinese-origin components affect CircuitHub orders and who is responsible for paying them.
As of 2018, all items identified, as classified, under the Harmonized Tariff Schedule of the United States (HTSUS) with a country of origin of China are subject to a 25% duty upon importation into the United States. The tariff only impacts products with specific HTS codes, with a listed country of origin of China, and consumed within the United States. For additional information please see here.
Although some component distributors have switched over to factor any tariffs into their displayed cost, many have not. We often don't get invoices/additional charges from tariffs until after the components have already been shipped to us. Because of this, we are unable to include tariff costs in the quoted component cost at the time of order placement.
On all orders, the customer is responsible for paying any tariffs related to the importation of components from China.
While we have not found these tariffs to apply to the vast majority of components we purchase, we do want customers to be aware of the possibility that they may receive an additional bill/charge in order to avoid any surprises.
Consigned Components Arriving from China
If you are purchasing components from China that you intend on consigning to us for an order, we strongly prefer that you have them sent to your company's headquarters first. This is to avoid CircuitHub paying the tariffs ourselves and then having to issue you a separate bill.
