Marking references as DNP vs. Place and Consign

When to use the Do Not Place (DNP) toggle versus marking a reference as placed and consigned, and why the distinction matters once an order is placed.

DNP (Do Not Place) means the part will not be fitted to your boards. Only use it for reference designators you want left unassembled. It is not a placeholder for parts you intend to have us fit later for an additional charge.

When a reference designator is marked as DNP, its required assembly data is not included for that reference when you place the order. If you later need it fitted, contact us to review the change. Do not assume it can be added to the existing order; changes can affect the price, production plan, and ship date.

If at the time of placing an order there are any components you are unsure whether you will have us fit, please keep the reference marked as placed and instead set it to consigned. This way, you will not be charged for the component, but if for any reason you change your mind, we can purchase and bill you for the component and mount it following the original data. If you decide that you don't want a reference placed, create an issue on the order page letting us know and we can easily leave it off of the final units.

Value Proto orders

Value Proto does not allow fitted through-hole or hybrid parts, or consigned parts. Marking a part DNP only makes sense if you want it left unassembled. Do not use DNP to qualify for Value Proto while planning to ask us to fit the part later. If you need the complete build assembled, keep those parts marked for placement and choose an available quote covering that build, or contact us before ordering.
