Altium special strings

Altium special strings are placeholders in PCB text, such as .rev_number or .project_name, that Altium replaces with a value when it generates outputs.

They resolve during import when you upload your .PrjPcb project file with the schematic and board files; see Do you support Altium .PrjPcb files?. Strings that refer to project parameters (Project Options → Parameters) take the values from the project file. System strings such as .PRINT_DATE take their values at import time, as they would in Altium.

Without the project file, strings that refer to project parameters have no value and appear as the typed text in the silkscreen, for example Rev .rev_number.

Values that a design variant overrides are not applied yet; the base project values are used.
